dtf! a dimilix diy zine is a free 18+ chill lofi zine in the spirit of our classic diy zine ancestors. you always find some weird shit in zines and there is a lot of chaotic work packed into this 200-page honker: sfw and nsfw works of art, fic, poetry, arts & crafts, cereal box games, and more!did we mention it’s free? in the spirit of a classic diy zine, this is available for readers to print themselves at home and perhaps add a little something of their own to it. bookbind it; scrapbook it; colour it to your whim; cut it up and make collages with it. remix it! there's a big communal aspect to diy zines and we encourage you to get your hands dirty!ok thank you for reading let's get to the dimilix!!!!!!!

thank you so much for checking out our zine! our creators toiled hard in the dimilix fields to bring you fresh crops. please drop them a note if you enjoyed their work!if you’re feeling inspired by what we did here, please check out for years: the zine! it's another free dimilix diy zine we're running from march to july, 2023, for the fourth anniversary of dimilix. this zine is also open to everyone and, as always, you can choose how you want to participate: build ideas with others; join one of the chill community collab events we run; or just do your own thing and show up one day with 100 pages of fic gripped tight in both hands for lin to format (me typing this out very nervously). the important thing is you're having a very cool and excellent time!no apps, no gloss, no work limits, just that traditional communal maker space vibe but like, with dimitri and felix. possibly kissing. possibly sucking. possibly even f—ok see you there!!
doing it mostly yourself
if you don't know what you're doing, that's super okay! we'll point you toward some of the easier book binding methods that you can try out.if you're book binding crafty, the file explanations are probably handy to check out!
what are in the files
self-print (sections): pages divided into 17 folded signatures. better for stitching and stapling!
commercial print (sequential): exactly that. better for glueing!
BW: sections that are entirely in black&white
SPINE: covers with generous additional width to accommodate for the spine
NO SPINE: just the coversall versions of the zine can be downloaded here.
printing your zine
the self-print version of the zine is divided into 17 folded sections (or signatures), not including the cover. each individual section is to be printed double-sided; if your printer doesn't do this automatically, you will need to print odd-numbered pages first, then flip your pages and print even-numbered pages on the other side.test print the first section until you're comfortable with this process!
the commercial print version of the zine is sequential. this means it's better for book binding that works with single pages, such as perfect binding!(or you can just send it to a professional printer and let them sort it out....)
printing your cover
standard printers are not able to print to the very edge of the paper, which means you will have to be a little creative with the cover if you don't want a white edge on it! the easiest way is to print it on a bigger piece of paper (such as legal size).you can also do an exposed spine or create a dust cover!
putting your zine together
there are many ways to put together your sections: long stapler; glue; stitching. if you have never done any book binding and don't have any special book binding tools, stitching will likely be the most accessible method! all you will need for this is:- sewing needles
- thread or embroidery floss
- ruler
- beeswaxto stitch your zine together, some great basic methods are this japanese 4-needle or this coptic stitch.if you'd like something a little more involved but still easy enough, you can use glue instead! in this case, here is a great tutorial on perfect binding.the zine featured here was made using the japanese 4-needle method with a butterfly cover, but for another example, please see this beautiful zine put together by one of our creators!and of course, if you have any questions or need a hand sorting things out at any step, please reach out to us!!! we love a good arts&crafts night and we would love to see everything you do with this zine.
dtf! a dimilix diy zine is a chill friend collaboration that encourages fun and creativity. a lofi zine meant to be printed at home on a $25 printer from college. a final physical item imbued with blursed vibes.please say hi to your zine makers!
